Asdrubal Malnvasi, twenty-two, ol 805, Liverpool-road, Islington, wns charged boforo Mr Hornco Smith, at Clerkenwell Polico Court, with using threatening behaviour, whereby n branch of tho peace might be occasioned, at Bnriisbury-stroi'l, and further willi liuviiig » loaded revolver in his possession, Detective Stephens said the previous evoning ho was in Upperstreet, Islington, in company with Detectivo Oarlin. They had tho prisoner under observation witli a view to finding out whera he went to, Malnvasi turned down lhtrnfiburystreet, and as witness and his fellowofficer followed him lie twisted on liis heels and said something in a ' foreign tongae. He also spat at the officers, and assuming a menacing attitude, placed bis band sharply underneath the back of his coat as if to tako something from tho hip pocket of his trousers. Having reason to bolievo that tho prisoner carried firearms the officors at once closed with him, Malavnsi struggled violently,andaftorcxcrling great forco tho witness extracted from tho hip pockot of tho prisoner's trousers a large six-clminborcd revolvor, fully loaded with ball cartridges. Tho prisoner was afterwards convoyed to Upper-street Polico Station. Tho evidenco of tho offieo was interpreted to tho prisoner, who became much excited. Ho gave a strong denial to tho cburgo in Italian, and said bo was interfered with by tho polico whilo bo was reading a letter, Ho added that on the previous Tuesday ho was told tliut if he left bis lodgings the police would givo him a "thundering hiding," On this occasion, bo alleged, unnecessary violence was used towards him, and that his trousers woro badly torn. Detectivo Curlin corrrobornled the evidenco given by Stephens, and said he soarched Malavnsi at Upporstrcot Police Station. He found in [he possession of tho prisoner n large number of letters relating to Anarchist meetings. In reply to the charge, at tho police station the prisoner said: " 1 carry tho revolver for my own protection, and mean to shoot anyone who interferes with me," Later tho officer wont to tho address given by tho prisoner, and thoro found a large quantity of literature relating to Anarchism, The prisoner, in agitated tones, informed tho magislrnto that the polico had a spite against him, becauso he belonged to a " political class." Chief-Inspector Melville, in reply to the magistrate said he desired a ' remand. The prisoner imulo an application 1 for bnil, Mr Horace Smith: I certainly shall not grant bail to people who carry firearms. Malavnsi wns remanded.
