CARTERTON NOTES.
(From Our (kit Correspondent!. Friday. Swaggers appear to he rather numerous about here at present. There was a largo attendance at St, Mary's Church, South Carterton, yesterday afternoon when Mr F. Lepenski was married to Miss Mary Whitkouski, The liev, Father Long ofliciated, The road the other side of the Waioliine Bridge is in a very bad state just now and travellers, especially cyclists, find it rather unpleasant. A twelve-yei(r-old daughter of Mr F. W. Graham, of llasterton, whilst staying with her sister, Mrs A. McEwen, of (his town, was very badly burnt yesterday morning through her clothes catchA ing fire. Dr, Johnston was quickly on ' |» the spot, and made the little sullercr as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. It is reported that two of the principal members of the Fire Brigade intend resigning from that body shortly. Complaints are made about some llasterton cyclists riding without lights, and going on the wrong side of the road whilst returning from Carterton yesterday, A collision with a Carterton cyclist 1 The usual fortnightly meeting of the Court Matquis of Normanby was held in the Foresters' Hall, Carterton, last night. There was a large attendance of members. The balance-sheet for flic past quarter was read and adopted, The invested capital of the Court was shown as JC(M2 2s 3d, and the management and benevolent funds showed a substantial increase as compared with the first quarter of the year. The following officers were installed for the ensuing six months-Chief Eanger, Bro. A. Aston; Bub-Chief Eanger, Bro, H. McPheo; Secretary, Bro. Chapman; Treasurer, Bro. P. Molloy; .1.W., Bro. jfcCilpin. During the evening Past Chief Jpilanger Bro. Underbill presented the retiring Chief ltanger, Bro. K. FitzGerald with a Past Chief Banger's certificite and neck ribbon. Tho retiring Secretary was also presented with a medal in recognition of his past services. After the close of tho Lodge the member* held i very enjoyable social for a fetv hours. Tho social and dance in conuection with the local Fire Brigade, held last night,' was not so successful as might have been expected. Between thirty t and forty couples occupied the floor. The .proceeds of the'dance will just ibout pay expenses.
