MASERTON TRUST LANDS TRUST.

—« — SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Maslei'ton Trust Lands Trustees was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs C. E. Dauiell (chairman), A. Vile, J. Hessey and W. Lowes. The Chairman explained that tho meeting had been called to consider a letter from tho Wellington Harbour Board with regard to the proposed Town Hall loan,

The Secretary, in reply to a question, said Mr Fordo, the architect, was absent from Maslerton,

The Secretary read a Idler from Mr W. Ferguson, Secretary to the Wellington Harbour Board, stating that a £2,000 loan would be available for nineycars at 4j per cent. Mr Lowes said the first thing they ought to decide was were they justified in taking up the money if they were kept out of their site till next June.

Tlio Chairman thought the source a very good one to borrow from if the Board was agreeable. Mr Lowes said what were they going to do. Were they going to lock up the money for four months ? This appeared io bo the point; there would be no difficulty in borrowing the amount.

Mr Vile thought they would have to re-open tho question of site ftir the Hall.

The Chairman said he had not yet had time to consider this point, as the letter was only just before them. However, as regards site, he had no hide-btiund notions.

Mr Lowes said if they could say how much the Hall was going to cost and where they wevo going to build it, tliey could go ahead. There was no difficulty in borrowing tho amount when they were ready, but they would be looked upon as bad financiers if they took up the money so long before it was required.

Some discussion with regard to the architect's estimates took place.

The Chairman said he had written to Mr Fordo asking for details of reductions to keep within the original proposals to be supplied by-Wednes-day evening.

Mr Lowes moved that the Chair man's action be ratified.

Mr Hcsscy seconded and the motion was carried.

Mr Hessey thought tliey ought to hold over the question of the loan till next meeting.

It was resolved to hold another meeting on Wednesday evening next the Trustees in tho meantime to look at the Drill Hall site in case it .is deemed desirable to alter the site of the Hall. Resolved (hat Mr Fordo ho asked to ho present at the meeting on Wednesday night. Mr Vile gave notice to move at next meeting: "That in the event of Mr Forde being unable to place a building according to design upon the sito selected, within a reasonable sum of the price named in the estimate given, the sito for the Hall be changed to that next the Drill Hall, to permit of modifications in the matter of side-rooms, frontages, etc."

It was resolved to hold the matter of the loan over till next regular meeting.
