OPPOSITION TO THE CARDINAL'S CANDIDATUKE,

Sydney, February IC. Tho representatives of the Protestant churches are issuing a manifesto' against the Cardinal's candidature | for the Federal Council and affirmi that tho entry of so high an ecclesiastic into the political arena is calculated to stir up serious rancour and also that tho Cardinal is a 6worn tU subject of a foreign power, and in the event of n conflict would owe his primary obligations of allegiance the power which invested him with his Cardinalite.
It is rumoured that tho whols strength of tho Orange Party is being pitted against him. The Cardinal will also have the influence o£ the Masonic fraternity exerted in opposition to him.
