THE SUAKIM CONTINGENT EXPENSES. <

In the House of Commons Lord Hamilton, Secretary of State for. Indin, moved that the ordinary pay allowances of the Suakim Contingent from India, be paifl for six months by the Indian Government, and indoing so said there were abundant precedents for the step the Government were taking in the matter. Mr John Moiiey moved that tho proposal was inexpedient, but this was negatived by 85. A number of Unionists voted with the minority while others abstained

from voting. Mr Balfour speaking to the motion ' denied any want of dignity it? the matter, and said the matter was on principle, wholesome to Great Britain and India alike. .
