MONTHLY MEETING.

The regular monthly meeting of the Masterton Town Lands Trustees, MS hold last evening, Present — {wsrs 0, E. Daniell (in the chair) M Vile, R, E. Hornblow and A. W. Eenall. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting wero read ami confirmed, LEAVE OK AHSENCK. * Tlio Chairman said he had been asked to explain that Mr Lowes (their Chairman) was unable to bo present, as he had been ordered to take a holiday owing to ill-health, Leavo of absence was granted to Jfr Lowes and Mr J. Hessey, the latter £ being absent from the Colony. VACAKT SECTION'S. It was resolved that the two sections lioar the School be offered for lease, unless Jlr Morris signs his agreement in the terms proposed by f him, Mr Vile thought they might offer all vacant sections for lease on short terms. It was resolved that a Committee of the whole Trust visit all vacant ftions, and report upon what is I to be done with them, at next meeting. EXAIILIXO HILL. Tlio Clerk reported that the preliminary steps in connection with the Town Hall Enabling Hill had been taken in accordance with law. treasurer's REPORT. The Treasurer reported a credit balanco at date of £2S6 os. SCHOOL fiRAXTS. The Masterton School Committee, Hov. Father McKenna, and the Fernridge School Committee wrote, thanking the Trust for the grants made at last meeting. It was resolved that half the amounts granted, be paid over, A REQUEST. 1 The Secretary of the .Masterton Horticultural Society wrote, asking the Trust to grant an annual prize for the best kept cottage garden in Masterton. Mr Renall thought it a question they should well consider. If they mado a grant of this kind, it opened the door to all other Associations. hi Vile said it was a matter of education. Mr Hornblow moved that as the . meeting was a small one, the matter bo held ovor for a full meeting. This course was adopted, lIAI.AXCE SFIE'iT. Bond forwarded certificates of work done at the Drill Hall and certain of the Trust cot- i tages. Progress payments were ordered ; to be made. THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The Cletk said he had received no intimation re the proposed de puta- i tion from the Jlasterton School Committee with regard to a grant for Technical Education, Jlr Daniell said Mr Beard had ; asked him to state, that as the matter of technical education would cotno before the Trust, the deputa- \ appointed by the School Comilratee would ask permission to wait on the Trustees at a future meeting..

ACCOUNTS, Accounts as presented, were passed for payment. IiKSEIIVIIS. Mr Hornblow (on behalf of Mr Lowes) moved that the reserves on the section near the Drill Hall, he fixed at £8 for the Hall-street section, and £7 for the Perry-street section; a building valued not less than £2OO to be erected on the Hallstreet section, and a building of no t less than £l5O on the Perry-street section, Ml'SEl'M. The Chairman said tho question of assisting the Museum had been discussed, and left in abeyance. He thought the Trustees might think this matter over before next meeting, as possibly this might he connected with tho Drill Hall if used for technical school purposes, as suggested. Tho Clerk said if glass cases could bo provided Dr Hector would give a number of specimens. The matter Jgd been brought up before and the Mbction then adduced was that the collection was at present a private one and under the control of no public body. He thought the Trustees might take into consideration, taking the collection over. Personally, he had expended a considerable sum on the exhibits himself, and had got them insured. Inreply to Mr Ilornblow, Mrßrown said that although the exhibits had been given, he had expended about £4O of his own money on the Museum. Glass cases were badlv needed so that the exhibits might be placed under cover, and the room thrown open. Mr Hornblow moved that a committee consisting of Messrs Daniell, Vile, and the mover report on the matter at next meeting. This course was adopted. MR. WSUIiEKd's I.EASKS, Mr Hornblow said he was of opiu • ion that accepting £IOO from Mr Caselberg and his surrender of certain leases would be moro advantageous to the Trust, than adhering to the terms of the lease, He would give notice to move that the question sidered in Committee and the meetjng closed.
