FATAL FIRE AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

The Empire Hotel was burned down between 1 and 2 a.m. Most of tho inmates had a narrow escape, and two men were burned to death, while attempting to escape. One was named Walker, a hawker, recently from Victoria, aged 34, and the other an old man named Maurice Connell,
A second fire broke out 111 the Square soon after, destroying the shops of Harvey, fruiterer; Haydon, grocer; offices of Guy and Haggott, and Drainage Board's Engineer.
