In almost every lino there is a tendency to rise. Potatoes have not altered very materially, but " " reports from tho South Island show a rise of fully twenty-five per cent, on last advices; and in the face of ■ this consumers must expect a higher rate for locally grown sorts within the next few days. The grain market is hardening, and much better prices are ruling. Poultry is Hat, and owing to low prices, very little passed through our hands hist week. Eggs have fallen considerably, and ' good butter has advanced a penny. Pigs, unless of exceptional value,arc unsaleable. Horses are in poor do—v. tumid, going at low prices, Business in laud during the week has been much quieter than usual, with the exception of leaseholds, Onr general ' tafsales in Carterton and Masterton 4 Wiiive been very active; in fact the local mart on Saturday was exceptionally so, Wo report prices as follows i—' , Eggs: Is per dozen; butter, Cd per lb. Poultry: Fowls, Is Cd to Is lid per pair; ducks,3s 3d; geese, 4s 8d; turkeys, 4s b'd. ' Produce: Oats, Is 8d to Is lid; oaten sheaf, 2s 3d to 2s Gd; straw chaff, Is 2d; potatoes, inferior, £i 12s Gd; good, 60s; pig potatoes, 3s 3d per sack. Horses: hacks, 3ss to £6; harness do,£4to£B os; second-hand saddles, 12s to 255; harness, 22s Gd to 3i>s.
