TOBACCONISTS and BETTING.
Meuiourxk, May 30. Tho Tobacconists Association has boon informed that one of its rules makes any tobacconist allowing bettiug on his promises ineligible as a member. The President stated that tobacconists liceuses wero used, by many, merely as a blind for betting shops and sinks of immorality. Such shops, not being dependent on tho profits from the articles they professed to sell, so reduced the prico of tobacco, that it was impossible for honest traders to compete with them. Efforts, he said, would also be made to stop Sunday trading.
