FIRE AT OPAKI.
Mr H- W. Jackson's House Destroyed-
The seven-roomed house of Mr Hugh W. Jaekson, on the Opaki, was totally destroyed by fire last night. Shortly after midnight the family of Mr Jackson was awakened by the roar of the fiur«es in the front of the house, and barely escaped with their lives. Within half an hour of the discovery of the fire the house was reduced to ashes. How the fire originated is a mystery, as everything appeared safe when the family retired to rest. Mr and Mrs Jackson were away from home at the time. The house was insured for £175 in the New Zealand Company, and the furniture and effects (including piano)' for £240 in the Victoria. Mr Jackson estimates his loas above insurance an fully £IOO,
