SPORTING NOTES.

(By Tipster),

The season's racing in this district will be brought to a close by the over popular meeting of the, Tinui Racing Club, which commences to-morrow on the new course, opposite the mouth of the Mungapakeha., The rapid strides this club has made during tho past few |ears is somewhat surprising, - the present meeting with its satisfactory entries, and the amount of added money (about £250) comparing favorably witli the majority of the Wairarapa Rating Club programmes, and the fact of a totalisator being o.n the course will on doubt raise tho prestige of the meeting several degrees in the estimation of sporting men. In the District Hurdles Scrutineer l&t, Zulu list fib, and Julia 9st3lb have decided to face the. starter. Zulu's performances at Cashpoint and Tauherenikau were such (is to give him first place in my estimation, and although he carries two stone more than he did at the latter meeting, I fancy he could give the other two a beating, notwithstanding Scrutineer's wellknown abilities over sticks,

Six have accepted for the Cup, which appears a very open event, If Roinp is at all fit I can hardly see what is to get home in front of the filly, but as things turned out at Tauherenikau I must certainly, favor Glaicks as his running there will amply justify it. Whitau has not been before the starter for some time, so very little must be said about the winner of the Wairarapa Produce of 'Bl, but if it shows anything like the ol>! form the race home ought to prove very interesting.

The Maidon Plate has six aspirants, which have more or less given good accounts of themselves (except winning,) For the Lady's Bracelet nine ladies' hacks are to try conclusions among which I notice some regular flyers, and if they all go to the post this should prove one of the events of the meeting.

A District Hack Hurdle Race and a Hack Race added to the abovo events make up the first day's programme for which I shall tip the following;— District Handicap Hurdles, Zulu; Tinui-Whareama Cup, Glaicks, Romp; Maiden Plate, Cribbage;' Lady's Bracelet, Barbara. For the second day's Hurdles, Mountain Deer and Cribbage at lOst 71b each are added to the first day's trio, At tho Wairarapa Jockey Club's meeting, the Deer was giving Zulu 31bs, On this occasion matters are considerably reversed, Zulu having to allow lvis opponent 121bs, but still for nil that I think ho is able to give the Deer that weight and a beating too, Cribbage is not to be depended upon, as ho has a desire to go round instead of over the jumps, which greatly impairs his chance of winning. If he could bo made to go straight, I should not hesitate to recommend an investment on him in the totalisator, ■

The District Handicap has nine acceptors, the four top weights being rWhitau ' 9st, Scrutineer Bst 101b, Glaicks Bst 31b, and Zulu H 111b. The race home will, in my opinion, lay between.those four, from which my choice must again fall on Glaicks j and although he carries a steadier, I think at tlie'finishhe will be able to wear the rest of the field down. For the Ladies PiUrse among the nine nominees appears the name of Dan O'Oonnell, bui in my opinion, although we have heard great things of him, we shall find something past the post before him. I hear there is a great difficulty to keep him on the course, and as this is an old failing of his, I should not be surprised to see it come off on Friday. The Field made a'start for Tinui this week, but her legs'went a bit queer and she had to return home., ■

A Hack Hurdle Kace, Hack Race, and Forced Handicap forms the rest of an attractive programme, my selections being:—Handicap Hurdles Zulu, Scrutineer;DistrictHandicap--Glaicks, Whitau; Lady's Purse—Cribbage.
