Mr John MoLachlan, accompanied by Mr MoKay, waited on "the Board, relative to. the laying off of road through Mr McKay's' property, so as'to give him access to his property. Mr' McKay stated that he was willing to allow'a road

to be taken through his.property on!receiving a fair compensation for the land

The following resolutions were, then

passed : That the Eugineer call for tenders for the following works:—lst. Stopping the overflow of the Waipbua River at the Pairau; 2nd. Formation'., of road and erection of culverts from main road to Mr 0, Campbell's property, Taueru Block. That when the Engineer is doing the work applied for by Mr Wingate, he at same time lay off a line of road from Alfredton to Tiraumea. That the West bounty Oounoil be requested to subscribe a sum to assist in stopping the overflow of the river at the Pairau. That the Clerk write to Mr Bunny, and inform him that the Board consider Mr Hunt's claim for land taken excessive, and therefore decline to pay it; but at the same time inform him that they ■ are willing to refer the matter to arbitration. To the rauger, informing him that the Board have no power to allow, him to pass free through the Te Ore Ore toll-gate while in the execution of his duty.

That Mr Tuck be informed that the road referred to in his'letter lias already been laid off, and that it is the Board's intention to adhere it; and that he be requested to erect the necessary gates thereon.

That the Clerk write to Mr Mawley, and inform him that he should apply to the West County County Council to expend the £l6O referred to in his letter, and that the present financial position of the Ward precludes the Board granting a sum to repair the road leading to his place. That the Clerk write to the Chairman of the West County Council, and acknowledge receipt of his letter, forwarding copy of resolution relative to heavily loaded wagons and carts with narrow tiers passing along the Forty-Mile Bush road, and inform him that the Board have not at present any person located there to whom they could entrust the duty of preventing persons travelling along the road with wagons and carts with narrow tiers, and would therefore suggest that Mr King, the County Engineer, should be instructed to put a stop .the practice, he having, in the execution of his duty, to pais along the road nearly every week. That a sum of £7l6s be granted to Mr Hood for repairs to road near his place. That the Carterton-Taratahi Highway Board be granted a sum of £SO to assist in repairing the road leading to Hurunuiorangi, . That Mr McKay be requested to state what sum he will take for acre otground for road leading through his propertyto Messrs McLaohlan and Donovan's, and that the Engineer inspect and report upon the best lines. That Mr Buohanan see Mr Powell and

request him to keep the road open leading through his- property until roads are laid off to Messrs McLachlan and Donovan's. That consideration of resolutions passed by the Manawatu Couuty Council be 'postponed till next meeting. That the Clerk be instructed to take the necessary steps for- the election of Wardens for-the several Wards of-the district. .
