WAIRARAPA EAST COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the above was held at the County Council Chambers, Masterton, last evening, the following Councillors being present :-MessrsPharazyn, H. R. Bunny, R. Maunsell, J. H. YYhishaw, J. V. Smith. In the absence of Mr G. Beetham, Mr Pharazyn \yaq plepted to the chair. MINUTES. TJie Clerk reported tlye election of Mr J. H, Whishaw, in place of Or Wingate, resigned. COHRESPONDENCE. The correspondence to and from the Gounojl since last meeting was read. ENDOWMENTS. A letter was read from the Wairoa County Council, asking this Ooqnoil to cq-operatq with it to have Counties placed on the same footing as Municipalities in the matter of endowments.—The Clerk w instructed, to reply to the effeot that, as the syßtem of endowments had beep abolished, it was obvious that in this respect Counties and Municipalities were, already on the same footing. FERRY RESERVE, . Correspondence i. po, this matter between the Council and the Government and the Rev J. C, Andrew, was read, the latest being from the latter, who stated that ashe had bought and paid for the land in question, he bad not the least intention to relinquish his title to it j and that although .he did not wish to inconvenience the ferryman, he would be com'pellod to'take some steps to assert his ownership. " /" • The Clerk reported that he had written to the ferryman,'who had l)§en,fencing in the land, telling him to"ce'ase making improvements till the affair was settled, but his letter had nofc.been acknowledged. The Council therefore instructed''him to write again, aa it was stated that the ferryman was still fencing. HraONNIOEmi BRIDOE. A letter was received from Wairarapa West County Council, enclosing copy of a resolution to %• effect'that a grant of £2OO would be made towards the coat of the above, but pointing out the anomaly of a County being compelled to contribute to a work dqne Jm an adjoining Oouufcy, as to the desirability of whioh' it had no voice. CASTLE POINT HIGHWAY BOARD. The Clerk wa3 instructed to write, to the above Board re sending in the necessary returns to the Government, in order that the Council might receive the balance of subsidy due. HURINUIOBANGI FERRY..
