Alexander Findlay'was charged bv Sergt M'Ardle (1) with being drunk and disorderly in the .public streets on the 29th January; (3) with assaulting the; police in the execution of their duty:;'.(3) with wilfully destroying the uniform "of Sergt. M'Ardle.

The Sergeant reported that the prisoner had been using most filthy language in the public street accosting every- female he met. '

The prisoner, who made no defence was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labor on the first count, and fined £3 or two months' hard labor. on the other. As the fine was not paid lie will probably have three months in which to improve his language before again appearing in publio. James Purcell, charged with being drunk.-and disorderly in the publio street, was reprimanded at)d discharged. Angus McKlnnon was pharged by Sergt. M'Ardle with being drunk and dis* orderly in the publio street, assaulting the police in the execution of their duty, and wilfully damaging property to the extent of 12s Gd by breaking a patie of glass in a window of Messrs Chamberlain Bros/ shop on Sunday last. • ■ ' The prisoner was fined 60s, and ordered 1 to pay damages, or in default. 14) days' imprisonment, ; . .;

After some demur, the'prisoner, apparently being in,doubt'as to whether he would " take it out," the fine was paid.
