MASTERTON-OPAKI JOCKEY CLUB
A well-attended general meeting of members of the above was held at the Empire Hotel on Saturday evening, Mr R. G. Williams in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary reported balance in bank from last meeting to be £3 5s Gd. Mr James Macara moved, seconded by Mr Harding—'! That the balance sheet, as soon as audited, be published in the Waiuarapa Daily."—Carried, The course was reported to be in excellent condition, and would require very little done to it, and the Chairman explained that a sum of about £6O would be saved this year that had to be spent last year in improvements, &c. The following officers were then elected for the ensning meeting;— President, R, G. Williams; Secretary and Treasurer, J. lorns; Judge, R. Welch; Starter, F. Gray; Clerk of the Scales, J, Harding; Handicapper, James Macara; Clerks of ,the Course, W. lorns and Manihera ; Stewards, A, Cave,. James Macara, H Bannister, junior, T. Chamberlain, S. Chamberlain, R. Campbell, and G. Dixon! The Chairman'regretted that with the large number of new namei propoied for
membership, they could not make uso.of the new blood, as by one of the rules Of the Club a momber must be proposed ono month before ballot. A Jong discussion ensued as to the advisability of holding one day's racing instead of two, when it was ultimately decided to hold two as usual.
The date of the next meeting was fixed for Tuesday and Wednesday, 2nd and 3rd December, and Messrs Macaru, Gave, lorns and Williams, with power to add lo their number, were appointed a Committee to draw up a programme and submit it to the next meeting. The Committee arranged to meet on the 20th iust., for this purpose.
Messrs Cave, Williams, Bannister, and Gray were requested to see the Messrs Welch, and lease the course on a long lease, say 15 or 20 years, The meeting was then adjourned until Saturday, 11th October, when new members will be balloted for.
