WAIHAORUNGA. (From Our Own Correspondent). Recently the Waihaorunga School Committee organised a card party and dance in the schoolroom to augument the general funds. There was a very satisfactory attendance, and a sum of £3 was received. The prizes for the cards were donated by Mrs Whatman (gentlemen) and Mr G. Cooling (ladies), the latter being won by Mrs T. Colville and Miss I. Barclay, and the former by Messrs Mackenzie and Cooling. Mr lan Barclay took charge of the dance, music for which was supplied by Mrs J. C. Hurst, assisted by Miss D. Bar clay and Mrs T. Colville. A lucky spot waltz was won b - Miss D. Barclay and Mr W. Powell. On behalf of the school committee, Mr H. Max Whatman thanked all present for their support. ANGLICAN CONFIRMATION AT WAIHAO DOWNS. The Right Rev. Campbell WestWatson. Bishop of Christchurch, assisted by the Rev. Canon P. J. Cocks as Bishop’s Chaplain, officiated at a service of confirmation in St. Michael’s Church, Waihao Downs, on Monday evening. The vicar presented the following candidates: Elizabeth Allen, Margaret Goodwin, and Nancy Thompson (Waihao Downs), Horace and Marjory Allnutt, Margaret Powell, and Jean Tumaru (Morven). A large congregation, representative of the whole of the parish, welcomed th-' newly confirmed as full members of the Church with a bright and prayerful service. Miss M. d’Auvergne presided at the organ. The Bishop based his address to the candidates on the prayer for the laying on of hands: “Defend, O Lord this child with Thy Heavenly Grace, that he may continue Thine forever, and daily increase in Thy holy spirit more and more until we come unto Thy everlasting Kingdom.” He asked them to memorise the prayer and use it regularly, inserting the first personal pronoun for the third.
