THE SALVATION ARMY

CONSTITUTION MAY BE CHANGED.

(Per Press Association —Copyright)

LONDON, Jan. 2. Considerable interest is being taken in the Salvation Army High Council. Freuds of General Booth declare that his illness does not prevent his carrying out his duties. Furthermore, there is no avowed rival in the field for the headship. On the other hand, another section holds that the day of one man control nag gone. The constitution must be overhauled.

It would appear at present that the opinion of the delegates is more or less equally divided. Commandants Evangeline Booth, who has thus far been unable to see her brother, declared that if the Council decides that the General is fit to continue office, she must accept the position, but, “other issues would then arise.” In any case, it is impossible to separate without a decision.

Asked why General Booth was unable to see the High Council, delegates, and even his sister, Colonel Tucker, a high official of the Salvation Army replied that the doctor would not allow the General to be told about the summoning of the Council, therefore, it was impossible for him to see any of the delegates. If he did. he would naturally want to know why they were here. Even if his sister tried to hide the real reason m the presence of a. general so mentally alert, he Would discover tiro truth in a few minutes’ conversation. The General will be told about the meeting when it is ended, if his health permits. He will also be informed of the decision.
