BAND OF HOPE

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Waimate Band of Hope' was held on Monday evening in the Temperance Hall. There were present His Worsip the Mayor (Mr G. Dash), Rev. J. 11. Haslam, Airs Roy (representing W.C.T.U.) Mr J. I. Hayman and representatives of the various Bible Classes and the Young Peoples Chris tian Temperance Union. The President occupied the Chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The financial statement was presented by the treasurer (Air J. Reid. Jnr.) and showed that the expenditure for the year was just equal to the receipts. The election of officers resulted as follows:— 'President: Air A. A. Shearer (re-elected); vice-presidents His Worship the Alayor (Mr G. Dash); Revs. J. H. Haslam, W. F. Nichol, Adjutant Briddock, Airs Roy, Alessrs J. I. Hayman and W. Simpson, junr.; Secretary: Air Ivan Mills; treasurer: Mr F. Johns; pianistes: Alisses Gay Reeve, M .Man Chester, Buchanan, Skevington (reelected) and Lena Williams. Following were elected members of the Committee: — Mesdames Shearer, O'Brien, Alisses Strong, Shearer, and R. Tooley, Messrs C. Dennison, J. Rollinson, D. Rollinson, W. Simpson senr., AV. Peek, J. Reid junr., and F. Roy. Eulogistic reference was made to the work of the various officers during the past year especially to that of the retiring Secretary (Mr C. Dennison.). A resolution was passed, directing letters of thanks and appreciation, for their very valuable services during the year, to be sent to the pianistees, all of whom were re-elected It was decided to ask the Young People of the Salvation Army to ar range the programme f"’’ the opening meeting. , The Methodist and Presbyterian Sunday Schools and the Young Peoples Christian Temperance Union are to be asked to provide programmes in that order. The first of the monthly meeting* for 1928 will bp held on Friday 27th April in the Temperance Hall at 7 p.Bi. Session 192 S promises to set a high standard of success in Band oi Hope work.
