NOT FAIR PLAY.

Sir, —This morning a friend of mine received through the post an invitation to attend a meeting to be addressed by Mr Evans, to be held on Tuesday evening—the night prior to the poll. This confirms niy suspi cion expressed in your valuable pa-

per yesterday that Mr Evans’ policy will not stand criticism, and he accordingly delayed the expression of his platform till lhe very night before the poll. This does not give the other side a fair opportunity of answering any matters brought for-

ward; and it places voters in the position of having insufficient time to examine the policy before having to cast their votes. While I have no complaint to make of Mr Dash in

this respect (he has been most frank and open in his declaration of policy), I must register my protest at the unsportsmanlike attitude adopted by Mr Evans. The British public admires fair play, and it surely is | not fair play to th? voter for the op posing candidate to delay the jtfst declaration of a policy till the night, before the poll.—l am, etc., NEWCOMER P.S.—I heard it remarked in several quarters this morning that MiDash or one of his men was the author of my letter in last night's “Advertiser,” signed “Newcomer.” I would like to sign my own name to a letter of this nature, but the firm by whom I am employed are against

any employees taking part in such matters; so I would be glad, sir, in fairness to Mr Dash, if you would kindly intimate, without divulging my name, that Mr Dash had nothing whatever to do with this correspond' enee, which I have entered into mere ly ir. the interests of fair play. —I am, tc., —‘‘Newcomer.”

(Mr Dash was not the writer of the letter appearing under the non, de plume of “Newcomer” in yesterday’s issue. The author is not employed by Dash, Ltd., nor is he oae of the candidates nominated by _Mr Dash. As far 'as we are aware he has no connection with any of Mr Dash’s interests. We may add, without divulging any confidences, that Mr Dash has not been responsible for any letters io the Editor during the present municipal campaign.—Ed., D.A.).
