A great finish. Won bj’ half a head. Time —Imin Ifjsec. SYDNEY. April 10. A record crowd attended the Warwick Farm races yesterday. The weather was fine and the going good. ' Amounis’s victory in the Chipping Norton Stakes was roundly hooted, in view of his running on the previous Saturday at Rosehill. Amounis demonstrated the highest class by flashing past the pacemakers as if they were only moderates.

Paleta in the Fairfield Handicap, and Quondong in the Cabramatta Handicap, were unplaced. Leading results were: — CHIPPING NORTON STAKES, of 1000 sovs; 11 miles. Amounis, 9.4 (J. Toohey) . . 1 Limerick. 8.10 (M. McCarten) 2 Windbag, 9.9 (J. Munro) . . 3 Eleven started. Limerick assumed command, but Pantheon went to the front at the half mile. Valicaye, ridden from behind, threatened danger turning into the straight, with Limerick handy. Amounis emerged from the field a furlong from the post, defeating Limerick by threequarters of a length. Windbag was a length and a quarter further back, a head in front of Valicare. Time—2min 51sec —a cqurse record. WARWICK FARM CUP, 11 miles. Luddenham, 7.0 . . . . 1 Piastoon, 8.10 . . . . 2 Three Kings, 7.12 . . . . 3 Eighteen started. Time —lmin 40|sec —a course record. SYDNEY, April 10. The “Sydney Sun” says -that Windbag ran particularly well to the turn in the Chipping Norton Stakes, but rounding the turn he appeared to falter. Munro sharply straightened his mount, but the old rush in the finishing stages was wanting. After the race Windbag was sore, and it is doubtful in the circumstances if Mr R. Miller will ask Windbag to attempt to win the Sydney Cup with 10.2 on his back.

The “Sun” states that Spearfelt broke down badly in the Chipping Norton Stakes, finishing seventh. His old lameness in the hind leg reap-

peared. The “Daily Telegraph” critic says that Windbag limped back after Saturday’s race, and to-day his foreleg was in such a condition that there is no chance of his keeping his Sydney Cup engagement, and littlehope that he will contest the weight-for-age events.
