SUNSHINE AND RAIN.

THE MONTH’S WEATHER. Last month proved to be fairly wet for the time of year, 1.54 inches of rain falling as against 1.06 incites for the same month of 1926. In March, 1927, rain fell on 12 days, while rain fell on ten days in March, 1926. However, from the point of view of bright sunshine, last month compares more than favourably with March of the previous year. In Mareh, 1927, 230 hours 5 minutes of bright sunshine were registered, as against only 141 hours 15 minutes for Mareh of 1926.

Frosts made, their appearance dur iug the month, two degrees being reg istered on Mareh 29 and three degrees on March 31.

The days of last month were characterised by cold mornings and bright, sunny days, with just the suggestion of a keen wind, and the nights were also fairly ehilly. The month was favourable from the farmers’ point of view, enabling them to proceed with their harvest operations with all expedition, while also helping on the crops in the ground.

Mr J. W. Armstrong, Hunter, reports that during tire month of March, rain fell on seven days, totalling 159 points, of which 64 points fell on the 23rd. This amount falling on a damp subsoil would have been quite sufficient, but following two previous dry months, it is very inadequate for a good Autumn growth. Turnips, for the most part, are at a standstill,, waiting ‘for a more liberal rainfall!
