At the sheepskin sales, there was a good all round selection, and general competition from Home trade, well supported by America and the Continent. There were very few withdrawals. Prices were all dearer than February. Merinos best sorts, showed 7| per cent, advance, others five per cent. Short woolled merinos, also lambskins and hoggets were up 71 per cent, and halfbreds 5 per cent. Medium and coarse crossbreds and pelts were all 5 per cent dearer.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. SYDNEY, April 8. Wheat is firmer but little is offering, at 5s 3d and 5s -Id; Hour £l2 5s to £l2 10s; oats (milling) 3s Sd to 3s 9d; barley, English 4s to 4s Id; Cape 3s 6d to 3s 7d; potatoes to £5; onions £3 5s to £3 15s. Ualgety’s shareholders unanimously resolved to increase the capital to £6.500.000 by the creation of one hundred thousand ordinary shares of £2O each to be offered to the present holders at a proportion of one new share to every two existing shares held. NEW YORK, April 7.

The Equitable Trust Company officially confirms that it has purchased the New South Wales loan of 25.000,000 dollars, and within a week or ten days, will offer the same to the public. It is understood the loan will be for 31 years, at 5 per cent., with a sinking ' fund, Observers, while sceptical that the net return to New South Wales till be 94 or better, are contending that the intrinsic conditions of marketing foreign bonds to the consumer in America, are such that to underwrite the issue at" these figures is unprofitable. They admit that the expectation of becoming the permanent American financial agents or advisers to New South Wales may induce the company to offer exceptionally attractive ternis, in the hope of secnriiJg the State's future American financing. The Commonwealth Conversion Loan of £11,711,000 at 5 per cent., issued at 98, has been underwritten. LONDON, April 7.

The War Office is inviting tenders for 6,070 tons of frozen beef and 380 tons of mutton deliverable in Egypt, Malta and. Gibraltar, partly during the six months ending November, and partly during the year ending May, 1928. Tenders close on April 28. Mr Hassan anticipates that the South Americans will again under-cut the Australians in the Admiralty’s canned beef contract, but owing to vigorous Empire propaganda, he is hopeful that Australia will secure the award.
