MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

At the meeting of the Committee of the Waimate- Automobile Association there were present Messrs <3. A. Manchester'(Chair), A. W. Barnett, R. Sinclair, T. Dyer. W. Geddes, James Manchester, M. Mcßae.

An apology was received from Mr IV. Bell. The ; president moved that there be recorded on the minutes the sincere sympathy and condolence of the members with Messis Al. Mcßae and A.. W- Barnett upon recent family bereavements they had suffered in the decease of their highly-esteemed and respected wives. The motion was carried member: standing. Motoring Dangers. Arising uot of the minutes, the Chairman reported that since writing to the North Otago Motor Club in regard to the dangerous water course cn .the Main Road to Oam aru, a bridge had' been erected'over the water-course.

It was also reported that- the Ganger caused by trees at the Railway crossing at Waihao Downs still existed, nothing having been done although the Railway Department had promised to communicate with the County Council on the question. It was unanimously agreed that the crossing was a most dangerous one, and as the trees complained of grew on the property, belonging to the Church at Waihao Downs, it was decided that the secretary communicate with the Downs Church authorities drawing their attention tc the great danger caused by the trees and request ihaf if possible the danger be removed.

The Secretary was also instructed to write to the County Council drawing their attention to the dangeiousness of the corner of the Cou.t oil’s plantation situated on the east side of the railway line on the Morven-Glenavy road, and further Lc advise the Couuicl that the dangei previously complained of at Douglas's corner (the corner of the Main South and Willowbridge roads) still existed as the fence had rot been cut back sufficiently.

Ihe Waimate Borough Council wrote drawing the Association’s attention fo i-he Railway crossing no-t-icj on the east side of Lower High Street which was obscured by trees on the property there. The notice being outside the Borough, the Borough Council had no control over it, and had written to the Railway Department who. had replied that Automobile Association was responsible for the maintenance o: these signs.

It was resolved that the Secretary send a reply that the Automobile Association had no control whatever over the Railway Department's s-gns, but the attention of the County Council should be drawn to the danger caused by the trees obscuring the sign The Secretary- reported that- Air Norman Hayes, Hekatarainea, had spoken to him in regard to Gm Automobile Association erecting a guide finger pest at Hakataramea. It was resolved «o ask Mr Hayes for full particulars of the sign required. Correspondence. The South Island Motor Union wrote enquiring how many members' tickets would be required for the 1927-28 season. The Chairman stated that when in Christchurch he had spoken to the Secretary of the Union and as there would be a considerable saving ii: the cost of tickets in having them printed at the same time as the Canterbury Automobile Associa tion he had ordered 200.

The action of the president was approved and the Secretary was in •Ducted to forward the required particulars as to dates and delive; y o. tickets.

The South Island Motor Union ac vised that a member of the North Canterbury branch had complained of a very bad place on the Bedcliff Read a short distance from Kurow

The Secretary was instructed to write to the Union asking for more definite information as to the whereabouts of’ the bad piece of road. ,

Messrs Hamilton and Fitch advised that the business of the Incorporation of the Association was now completed, and the certificate c/ Incorporation and a copy of the rules approved and sealed by the registrar of Incorporated Societies had been received by them.—Re ceived.

Reports on the quarterly meeting of delegates held at Oamaru < n December 3, and on the half-yearly meeting of delegates held in Christchurch on March 25 were received. The chairman reported that h? had attended beth meetings as the

Waimate Association's delegate. Al considerable amount of important business of interest to all motorists had been transacted at both meet ings, particulars of which had been received by eahc member of the Asaociat ion

A vote of thanks was passed to the Chairman for acting as dele gate. The list q£ official hotels for the South Island was received.

In regard tc badges for the Association, the Secretary was instructed to write to Mueller am’ Young, engravers of Christchurch, for samples am) quotes. A list of caniping grounds in the South Island for motorists was forwarded by the South Island Motel Union.

The Chairman said that when he had been in Christchurch as de’ligate to the Waimate Association, ht. had advised the Secretary of the Union of the camping ground iu Victoria Bark, Waimate. Numerous Dangerous Corners. Mr R. Sinclair said that there were numerous very dangerous corners in the district and he would like the subject mentioned in the local paper urging owners of property on which there were dangerous corners caused through high hedges or plantations tc endeavour to increase the safety of the travelling public as much as possible by cut- ' ting back these fences and trees that interfere with the visibility at the
