(Per Press Association—Copyright). LONDON. December 27. The New Zealand League team defeated Broughton Bangers by 32 to 8. Tlie New Zealand League team scored eight tries of which four were concerted. fhe Broughton Rangers obtained two tries and a penalty goal. Play opened scrappily, the New Zealanders experiencing difficulty in combating Broughton’s vigorous forward rushes. Broughton opened the scoring. Bevan placing a penalty goal. Twice later the home team almost crossed the New Zea landers’ line. Then the visitors attacked strongly, with a magnificent bout of passing, the ball travelling threeguarters the length of the field. Gardiner and Brisbane were prominent. Then the ball went in to Avery, who crossed. Delgrosso failed to convert. Lomas then scored an unconverted try for Broughton, and immediately before the interval Dufty broke away, am, sent in to Avery, Dufty goaling, leaving the New Zealanders loading by 8 to 5 at half timn In the seccnd half, a Broughton player, Merriman, was absent owing to injury The New Zealanders gave a vastly improved display, and were unperior in all departments. Brown, Kirwan and Averv scored tnes in the first quarter of an hour. Upfty converting the last. From then on the visitors’ brilliant handling and speed nonplussed the home players. Thrice they penetrated the defence, but the final passes were knocked on. Mason scored a. try, Dufty convert, ■ug. Avery continued to be the outstanding player, and scored two further tries, one of which Dufty converted.
