Tire Aorangi, en route to Auckland, backed into the United States submarine R 5, then glanced off, smashing -completely through the quarantine pieip wrecking the sheds, and doing damage^to the extent of £5090. The Aorangi, which was in charge of the pilot at the time, was unharmed and proceeded on her voyage. LONDON, Dec. 27. The steamer Burutu of Liverpool, arrived at Portland, reports a collision with the French barque Eugene Schneider, which sank. Four of her crew were saved by the Burutu’s boats. Twenty-four are missing, and are believed lost.
