BIG CARNIVAL.

ON CAROLINE BAY. COMMENCES MONDAY AFTERNOON. Many people from Waimate attended the Christmas Carnival at Caroline Bay, Timaru, last year, and they will be interested to learn that arrangements have been made by the Caroline Bay Association for a better and brighter fixture on Ithis occasion, i This time the Carnival will be held from December 27 to January 3 (both days inclusive) The Carnival, which is held by the body responsible for the beaut- ■ ifying of South Canterbury’s seaside resort (a work deserving the I hearty support of all resident in South Canterbury) will be officially opened at 2 p.m. on Monday; and will be continued daily. Humiliations & Fireworks Display. Brilliant illuminations will make the Bay a true scene of carnival every night; and at 11.30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve there will be a grand fireworks display by YVainoni Fireworks, Ltd. Dancing, band music, sideshows, etc.., will be included in the programme for the diversification of adults. Children Specially Catered For. Children will be specially catered for by sports every morning for boys and girls, and afternoon fancy dress and poster competitions, be sides amusements and sand modelling competitions. A merry-go-round from the Dunedin Exhibition has been installed; and a laughing gallery will provide plenty of merriment. On Wednesday a children’s fancy dress dance will be held in the Bay Hall from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday’s Programme. On Sunday afternoon and evening (December 26) concerts will be given by the Salvation Army Band, Timaru Municipal Band, and also by radio. Wireless on the Bay. A unique feature of the enter tainments this year will be the in--, stallation of a most up-to-date wireless plant, second to none in Aus tralasia Not only will music, concert items and commercial news from overseas be broadcasted, but local talent will be available either on the Bay or per telephone connexion from residences anywhere in South Canterbury, together with gramophone selections at the direc lion of the wireless committee. The following is the daily pro gramme, which, however, is subject to alteration at the discretion of the Carnival Committee: 10.30 a m.—Children’s Races (South of Band Rotunda). 2 pm.—Side Shows (Continuous). 3 p m.—Children’s sand Modelling Competitions. 4 p.m —Children’s Fancy Dress Parades (Pavilion). 7 p.m. —Side Shows —Bands and Radio Concerts. 9 p.m—Carnival Dance.
