MORVEN DOMAIN BOARD. foe* OWN COBBESPOXDENTj A public meeting held to elect five members of the Domain Board was fairly well attended. A report of the year’s work and the balancesheet was read and considered very satisfactory. >Some suggestions were made which, if given effect should prove of value to the district The following members were elected to the Board: Messrs D. Kennedy (chairman), M. Cooney, J. C. Hay, R. Sinclair and S. J. Bailey. WAIHAORUNGA. Recently a very pleasant evening was spent in music and dancing at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. A. Powell, Waihaorunga, when members of the Southern Football Club, and friends, met to bid farewell to Mr Lowry Jennings who was leaving for Geraldine. The dining room and supper table were decorated with blue and white, the club’s colours, and the drawing-room with roses. During the evening, Mr Clear president, on behalf of the club, asked Mr Jennings to accept, as a token of farewell and esteem, a Loewe pipe, and tobacco pouch. Mr Jennings suitably replied.

HUNTER. An interested audience gathered in the Library Hall last Monday to hear a lecture by Dr. Phillips, Medical Inspector of Schools, on the question of open air schools. The Rev. A. MeNeur operated the lantern and some very instructive slides were shown to illustrate the different points of the address, and judging by the attention of those present a very great interest was taken in the lecture. At the close a very hearty

vote of thanks was tendered to Dr. Phillips and also to Rev. MeNeur for the use of his lantern. On Tuesday evening a social was held in the Hall to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Fred Gibson, but owing to the heavy rain only a small number were able to be present. Mrs Allan and Miss Hammond supplied dance music and the ladies supplied a tasty supper. At ah interval MrGibson was asked to accept a roll of notes as a token of esteem from his Hunter friends and the hope was expressed that he would buy something to remind him of the 18 years he had spent at Hunter. Mr Gibson made a suitable reply, thanking those present for their kind words

and* present. He assured them that wherever they settled the Hunter people would always receive a warm welcome from his wife and himself. On Friday the anuai school picnie was held at Timaru, motors leaving at 8,30, and a most enj’oyable day the Bay, the weather being perfect. A lengthy sports programme filled the afternoon and about a pint of silver was distributed among the ehlidren. A start for home was made about 5 p.m., a tired but joyous crowd voting it one of the best outings the School had ever had.

COURT STAR OF WAIHAO. The monthly meeting of the Court Star of Waihao, No. 7929, A.0.F., was held on Tuesday evening, December 14th, in the Morven Hall, when C.R. Bro. J. W. Woods presided over a large attendance. In addition to the local members the South Canterbury District Officers paid an official visit to the Court, and a number of visitors from Court Southern Cross, Timarn, Courts Victoria (ladies) and Pride of Oamaru, paid a fraternal visit. With the Otago visitors were Bro. L. Churchill, District Chief Ranger for United Otago, and J.P.D.C.R. Bro. V. E. 'Doran, who' was accompanied by Mrs Doran. The meeting having been duly opened the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The sick visitors’ report, which was of a most satisfactory nature, was taken. The C.R. then invited the D.C.R., Bro. C. L. Tubb, to take the chair and conduct the business for the evening. Bro. Lubb took the chair and thanked the C.R. for the honour, the subordinate officers occupying the other offices. Bro. Lubb welcomed the Otago visitors. C.R. Sister White replied for Court Victoria, Bro. Doran for Court Pride of Oamaru, and D.C.R. Bro. L. Churchill for the United Otago District. All expressed their pleasure at seeing such a fine gathering and wished the Court Star of Waihao and the South Canterbury District every sutecess. P.D.C.R. Bro

T. C. Baker, of Court Southern Cross, also returned thanks for the Timaru visitors and apologised for the absence of their C.R. Inward and outward correspondence was read and received. Bros. J. C. Hay and C. Dickson, were Court’s delegates to the special District meeting held in Timaru on November 25th, for the purpose of inviting Bro. J. H. Maefle, District Secretary, United Otago District, to explain the system of consolidation of the Sick and Funeral Funds of the Courts into a District Sick and Funeral Fund. Both delegates were highly impressed with Bro. Macfie’s clear explanation of the system; and their reports were further supplemented by the District Secretary, Bro. A. J. Jones and P.D.C.R. Bro. T. C. Baker. Bro. Churchill also- addressed the meeting on the consolidation system, and its great success in United Otago, although at its inception he was strongly opposed to it. Bro. A. G. Woods, the Court’s delegate to the Waimate United Friendly Societies’ Council, gave an account of the business transacted especially the question of the annual picnic and Easter sports. It was decided.to hold the next Court meeting on January 10, 1927. Accounts were passed for payment; and after wishing all present the compliments of the season, the D.C.R. duly closed the Court. A pleasant evening was then spent in music and dancing, cards being provided for the non-dancers. Supper was provided by Court Star of Waihao. Before leaving for home, Bro Tubb on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Court Star of Waihao for the fine evening provided. Bro. Woods replied; and a pleasant gathering was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
