During the year just ending, 10,844 new buildings have been erected in the methopolitan area at a cost of £13,129,000, compared with 10,989 costing £11,587,000 in 1925. SYDNEY 7 , December 23. The Newcastle Hospital Board has received a protest against the appointment of Air J. Coyle from the Hospital Employe&s’ Association of New South Wales. The Board decided that Air Williams’s services should cease on January 24, the date Mr Coyle will arrive, but Air Williams, if he desired, could remain on at the present salary until the matter was dealt with by the Board, The question, of Mr Williams heinc. allocated another position will be considered by Air Coyle. MELBOURNE, Dec. 23. George Devitt was committed for trial on a charge of murdering Emma Hill. (The mutilated body of Emma Hill, aged 17, was found by the police on the bank of the Yarra River. The discovery was made as a result of statements made to the police by George Devitt, aged 27. Devitt, in the early hours of the morning, hailed a taxi-cab and told the driver that he wanted to be driven to the police station. Deyitt’s throat was cut when he arrived at the station. He there told the police that he had left the girl near the river, after having cut her throat, and then cutting his own. After searching for several hours, the police found the girl’s body. There were evidence of a desperate struggle, and an examination of the body revealed that after the unfortunate girl’s throat had been hacked, she • had been subjected to outrageous treatment. The dead girl had been in the habit of going out with Devitt but had lately told him she did not want to go with him again. After

this repulse, Devitt became moody and wrote to the girl and arranged a meeting for last night.).
