EMPIRE EXHIBITION.

SOME CRITICISMS. rKB racsa association —CurxaiUju LONDON, March 22. Sir Charles Higliam (.Publicity Expert) criticises Jhe Wembley advertising abroad as scandalously dencent. ‘ The exhibition,’’ he says, "is the. nation’s shop window. Yet we are not telling anybody about it. The fault is. due to bureaucracy, Ti.u ..Hole thiii., could be done within a week u.. experts.” The “Daily Herald” in an editorial on the Exhibition argues that this is an unfortunate moment to invite visitors from the Dominions and foreign countries, as London, owing to widespread poverty and distress, has become the world’s shabbiest city. In the House of Commons, Mr Baldwin drew attention to Lord Parmoor’s suggestion to arrange a free trade exhibit at Wembley, and asked did the Ministry approve of the use of an Exhibition for political partisan propaganda. Mr Macdonald replied that he did not desire such use, and regretted that Lord Parmoor’s letter had given such an impression. Mr Baldwin intimated that he would further discuss the matter on the Wembley vote. , Sir Philip Lloyd Greame (ex-Presi-dent of the Board of Trade protested gainst the letter of Lord Parmoor in favour of a Free Trade exhibition at Wembley, Mr Macdonald said the Government stood by Free Trade which must not. be nibbled away at the foundations by the development and application of Imperial preference, which would ultimately undermine it altogether.

“The Times” says that it nov appears that there is some doubt whether the letter regarding a Free Trade exhibit at Wembley was actually signed by Lord Parmoor, or merely circulated by the North Western Free Trade Union, of which Lord Parmooi is president.

“The TimeS” Manchester correspondent says officials of the Union declined to discuss the matter, and declared that they know nothing of Lord Parmoor or the Union to drop the suggested scheme of a Free Trade exhibit.

As far as they knew the scheme was going forward.
