THE PUBLIC LIBRARY.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Public Library Committee met on Friday evening. Present: Messrs S. J. Hitchens (chairman), Powell, W. G. Paul, E. B. Fiaselr, O. Simmons and A. F. Sargent. An apology was received from the Hon. Secretary. Mr A; Buckingham. The Librarian (Miss I. Strong) repeated for the month ending November 9 that the sum of £5 14s had 'been handed to the treasurer. One new member had subscribed for a year. It was decided to call for tenders for the purchase of the following 'magazines and periodicals, after they had appeared on the tables: Stead's Review, Sydney Bulletin. Pearson's, Windsor, Strand, London, Nash's and Cassell’s magazines, Punch. Ladies’ Home Journal. Tattler, Life, Sphere, Illustrated London News, Auckland Weekly News, Weekly Press, and Otago Witness; tenders to close at. neon on December 14. The sum of £5 was vot' d to the Book Ccnunitte© for the purchas: ®f new books. Accounts amounting to £4 17s 6d were passed for payment.
