The fourth race for the Sanders Cup started at 10.30 this morning, only the three surviving boats, Rona, lurihiku, and Linnet, taking part. The Rona was slow in getting away, ~ay, but went very fast through • e water, and was in the lead at the first mark. She increased her lead rapidly, and completed the first round 4mins ahead of Murihiku, the Linnet being a long distance astern. Rona continued to increase her lead, and won by about 9mins from Murihiku, the Linnet having dropped out after the first round. The Rona (Auckland), the defender, won the Cup by defeating Murihiku (Southland) by 14mins 14sec in the fifth race. Rona assumed the lead shortly after the start and was never headed. An uncomfortable sea under a fresh breeze suited her. Commencing the second .round the Linnet’s spinnaker fouled the mast and she capsized. She was then about 4mins behind Rona, and leading Murihiku by lamins. MOTOR CYCLING dominion championship. NELSON, Feb. 2. The New Zealand Motor Cycle Middleweight;. Championship, decided under the auspices of the Nelson Motor Cycle Club, resulted: N. E. Webley (Blenheim) 1 E. C. Earsford (Bulls) 2 F. Donaldson (Blenheim) 3 LAWN TENNIS. OAMARU v. WAIMATE. Members of the Waimate Tennis Club visited Oamaru on Thursday and played against a representative team picked from the three local clubs, the contest resulting in a win for Oamaru by 25 sets to 7, says the North Otago Times. The weather was perfect, though perhaps a little on the warm side so far as tennis was concerned. This, however, in no way affected the play, and both sides put up a good performance, the scores being hardly a fair indication of their respective merits. Keen interest was displayed in the contest by a comparatively large crowd which attended the courts throughout the day. Luncheon was partaken of at the Queen’s Hotel. At the conclusion of the match, Mr Tweedy, on behalf of the visitors, expressed pleasure at being again afforded the opportunity of visiting Oamaru and reviving pleasant memories associated with their previous visits. Mr H. K. Sumpter briefly responded on behalf of the local team. Folowing are details of the various games, the Oamaru players being mentioned first in each instance:— Ladies’ Singles, Miss M.
