AUSTRIA’S PLIGHT

The. Austrian Government is petitioning the British Government to call an Allied Conference and to grant credits to Austria. Otherwise the Government and Parliament will sign leaving the administration of the country to the Allies. FALL IN THE KRONEN. The Kronen is quoted at 240,000 to the pound sterling, resulting in a further buying mania, everyone desiring to get rid of paper money, which depreciates daily. A PEOPLE. The people, despairingly ask what is the use of the Government attempting to check depreciation? What is the use of imposing numberless new taxes and rates to bridge the ever-growing deficit? What is the use of numberless increases in official and other incomes when the causes over- which Austria has no control, suefy as fall of the German mark results in further depreciation of the kronen and the shattering of all plans for Austria’s reconstruction.
