EMPIRE DAY.

MR CHURCHILL’S MESSAGE. PRESENT DAY NEEDS. LONDON, May 23. The “Empire Mail” published Empire Day messages from notable personages. Mr Winston Churchill (Secretary of State for the Colonies) says: ThtS Empire is passing through a: period requiring firmness, coolness and patience. We must not allow the exhaustion and restlessness of the aftermath to deprive us of the solid enduring gains of victory. Still less must we allow the weak subversive elements to squander and undo the work of the brave, strong and true, and so make then sacrifices unavailing; while peopling the Dominions and developing their unique measureless resources will enable us to render a further service to mankind.
