PROCEEDINGS DISCONTINUED. The Crown law authorities have de cided not to proceed further with the charges against James Reynold Hayne, chemist, of Dunedin. The indictments against Hayne were as follow: (1) That at Timaru on November sth, 1921, he unlawfully killed one Violet Ada Atkins, thereby committing the crime of manslaughter; and (2) that at Dunedin on October 7th, 1921, he unlawfully used an instrument or other means upon \ lolet Ada Atkins, with intent to procure a miseariage. Hayne was three times tried, twice durmg the February sessions ?nd a ! gam last week, and on each occasion the jury disagreed, Mr A. C Hajilon, of Dunedin, appeared fo? Hayne at each trial.
