Captain H. E. MoGowan, of Willowbridge, has received from His Excellency the Governor-General his badge as a member of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. This honour was conferred by His Majesty the King in recognition of seiwices rendered by Captain McGowan during the war. Mr McLeod, the newly-appointed Headmaster of the District High School, is at present suffering from an attack of pleurisy and will be unable to resume his duties for another fortnight. Mi Leslie King, who was injured while playing football on Thursday afternoon, is reported to be progressing favourably. The injuries consist of a torn ligament and cartilage of th left leg. Candidates annouared for the Dun edin North by-election are Messrs J. W. Munro (Labour), J. J. Clarke (Independent Reformer). As regards the Liberal Party, the choice rests between Mr W. Begg and Mr H. E. Moller, and it is probable that the former will have the Party’s uomina tion. Mr Munro has previously stood t without succeee, and Mr Clark and Mr Begg are both ex-mayorn.
