and dealt W The report of the committee appointed to deal with the questions ot shooting and athletic competition was brought adopted. - j The committee reported that, 1 V speaking, in regarding to athletic competitions, they were unanimously of the opinion that general "Munitions among secondary schools were Wt interests of the pupils and should be discouraged, also that no further trophies should be accepted for competition. . This applied to such cups as the Riddiford Cup for cadets, and the Skerrett Cup for Association rootball. As regarded the Moascar Cup, presented to the New Zealand Rugby Union by the New Zealand Mounted Division in Egypt, the committees, while fully appreciating the sentimental reasons attaching to it, considered that competition by the secondary schools for the Cup was detrimental to the best interests of the pupils ana that the New Zealand Rugby Union be asked to utilise the cups for anr other purpose. ... _ Regarding the Heathcote Wuluuns Challenge S’hield for cricket the finding of the committee was that as uie competition for this shield had beneficial effects and had done much to improve cricket in our schools, the competition, should continue on the same Ikies as at present.
