WINTER SCHOOL.

The Winter School, organised by the W.E.A. and the Canterbury Progress League for farmers and teachers,.which commenced on Monday last, and concluded this evening, litbs proved ver ( successful. Professor Shelley xyas Director, assisted by Professor Condliffe, with Mr H.Belshaw secretary, and others from Canterbury College. Great interest was shown in the school and lectures have been well attendedjfejncreasing substantially as the week progressed. A number of excursions into the country were made during the afternoons.
On Tuesday the Winter Show at Kokatahi wa s v.sited. This proved a great success and visitors were greatly surprised at the extent and quality of the exhibits, notably oats, chaff, hay, and other farm produce, while the home cookery section was specially fine, winning many enconlums.
Representatives of the Canterbury Progress League also attended the School, and to-day inspected the bridges of South Westland ' in the course of erection, with a view to inquiring into the complaints of much delay at the southern rivers and the holdmg up of traffic. The spit at the Waitahi bridge was completed s ome months ago, but owing to the road approaches being still a long wav from completion though sufficient to allow traffic to use the bridge. The teachers and students of the 'inter School were entertained at supper this evening, wh en g ene rM expressions of satisfaction were th°p C h d at J he success achieved, and e hope that the school will b e made -n annual one.
