HANNATON. SCHOOL CONCERT. (From Our Own Correspondent). The annual concert in aid of Hannaton School was held in Nukuroa Hall on Thursday evening. The concert took the form of an operetta, given by the Hannaton School children. The play wenit with a swing from start to finish, and the performance of the children reflects great credit on the teachers, Mr Holmes and Miss Bannerman, who trained them. Appropriate scenery, beautiful dresses, smart songs and dances and drills by the children and the brilliant light installed for the occasion by Mr E. H. Wright, agent for the Simplex Light, all went to make the evening a very enjoyable one. The plot of the play was as follows:—

The Ogre wishes to steal the magic ring; then, Master of Everything, he will not marry the Butterfly Queen. Jack and Milly inform the Queen of his plot. She plans to trick him. A very thick veil hides his bride who turns out to be sharp-tongued Dame Snuffv.

The cast of characters was: Milly, a girl scout, Gladys Fyall; Jack, a boy scout, Rex Kippenberger; Tweedledum and Tweedledee, irrepressible twins, Paul Colville and James Lindsay. The Wood Ogre, George Sides. The Butterfly Queen, Fanny Tonkin; first and second fairies; the Queen’s Attendanlts, Jean Kippenberger and Mavis Dickson; Dame Snuffy, Amelia Claude; a school boy, Allan Kelly; a school girl, Jane Mills scouts, imps and fairies, children. The musical numbers were:— Overture, Miss Bannerman (piano) and Mr Kippenberger (violin); opening chorus, children; chords of fairies, junior children; song of the Woodland, Gladys Fyall; Scout chorus and drill, senior boys; The Fauy Ring, Jean Kipperberger and fairies; flower chorus and danee, School girls; duet, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Paul Colville and James Lind say; imps frolic by Junior boys; duet “Friendship,” Gladys Fyall and Rex Kippenberger; song, Gladys Fyall; final chorus by the school children. Between acts songs were rendered by Miss A. Fyall, Mrs J. Meyer, and Messrs Borthwick and Hunter, all aecompjanied by Bannerman, and all being heartily encored.

After the concert Mr Lindsay, the chairman ce the School Committee, in moving a vote of thanks to the per formers, expressed appreciation of the splendid way in which the children had performed, and warmly thanked the teachers for the work they had done in training the children and staging the operetta. Amid hearty clapping the members of the audience gav e three hearty cheers for the children and teachers and asked for Miss Bannerman to appear on the stage.

Supper and’ dancing brought the evening to a close. •

Numerous requests were made to the teachers to have the operetta repeated and this is at present under consideration.
