The Premier has acceded to the request by a deputation of suburban mayors and presidents of shire councils that the Government subsidise by loan on a pound for pound basis to the sum of £154,000, which the local authorities intimated they were prepared to spend in providing work for returned soldiers. UNEMPLOYED DEMONSTRATION Demonstrations of unemployed are being held on Friday, demanding that the Government shall pay the living wage or subsistence wage until they find work. AN EMPLOYER’S SUGGESTION RE-ENGAGEMENT OF SOLDIERS. Sydney, this day. Mr McMahon, president of the Employers’ Federation, has offered as a solution of the unemployment of returned soldiers the suggestion that every employer should take back into his service the returned men who were with him before the war.
