Slade, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, from Mr W. T. Parata. who is organising the Maori Rugby team for Sydney in the Bay of Plenty district. Mr Parata states that he has been over the ground previously covered by the New South Wales League organiser, and finds that no prominent Maori players have gone over to the Northern Union game. The report of the managers of the Rugby League team which toured England, recommends, in connexion with future tours, that consideration be given to playing matches in the United States and Canada on the outward journey. BOXING. DOWNEY BEATS O'DOWD. NEW YORK, May 16. At Columbus (Ohio) Downey won the decision over Mike O’Dowd in a 12-round bout. BRENNAN KNOCKS OUT TRACEY. NEW YORK, May 16. Tracey was knocked out by Brennan in the eighth round. Tracey was three inches taller than Brennan, but 51bs lighter, weighing 1871bs. Tracey showed a lack of boxing skill which, despite his speed and vast courage, proved wholly ineffective against a more experienced man and a greater master of ringcraft. The New South Wales Cricket Association adopted a recommendation that the match with Maclaren’s team should be accepted on the previously decided terms—2s per cent, to the Association and 75 per cent, to the New Zealand Council. Mr Smith explained that the match would take place in February or March.
