SUPREME COUNCIL.

HUGE SCHEME IN PROSPECT. SUPREME COUNCIL SUGGESTION. Per Press Association —Copyright. CANNES, January 11. A communique states that the Supreme Council approved the establishment of an international syndicate, with affiliated national syndicates, to undertake the economic reconstruction of Europe, and to secure co-operation of all nations restoring normal prosperity. The Council accepted the proposal that a committee, composed of two British, one French, one Italian, one Belgian, one Japanese representative, should immediately be constituted to examine the scheme and proceed with the organisation of international and affiliated syndicates, and report to the Genoa Conference. LONDON, Jan. 10. M. Briand, at the conclusion of the meeting of the Supreme Council, informed the Press that newspapers were giving currency to the falsest of rumours. It was said, in particular, that with a view to reviving a guarantee of military aid in the form of an agreement, this was' likely to be realised, thanks to concessions France was disposed to make in respect of her national defence, and the position the Treaty gives her on the Rhine. “ Nothing of this kind was touched upon in conversation between myself and Mr Lloyd George,” he said. "The only question discussed has been whether it was to the interest of the two Powers that Germany should be confronted with the forces of Britain and France if she made an attempt at revenge.”
