-•DISCUSSION BY FARMERS. Press Assn. —By Tel. —Copyright. WELLINGTON, Jan. 11. “Economy in the administration of Government departments” was the subject of a discussion of the meeting ot the Executive of the Farmers’ Union. The matter arose when a letter from the Auckland Branch Union, stating: “The Executive views with astonishment the fact that departmental expenditure is still increasing,” and suggesting that strong recommendations be made to the Government with a view to immediate retrenchment. Some speakers referred to the need for the Government giving financial assistance to many firms threatened with collapse, that the Government be requested to raise a loan so that moneys could be advanced. Captain Colbeck, Auckland, said that from figures it was evident that retrenchment was not in progress. It was decided to reply to the Executive urging that further economies be kept steadily in view.
