P. AND T. OFFICERS. Per Press Association—Copyright. HASTINGS, January 11. At a meeting of the Hastings branch of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association the following motions were carried unanimously:— ’“(1) That if the precedent of requiring State Departments to furnish financial balance sheets is to be made permanent in accordance with demands made by commercial and farming bodies, then we request that the functions of every State service be reviewed and placed on a paying basis, or where deemed necessary, subsidisation in the interests of development in every such case should be a burden on the Consolidated Fund. “(0) That this section calls upon the executive to strongly oppose any reduction in salaries, which would impose unfair special taxation on us as workers, whale not being uniformly shared by all members of the community. While we can point to remission of taxes to others above the bread and butter line of living, and until the legislation of the country provides specially for rearing families, <we will strenuously oppose any political move to impose fiat rate adjustments which do not take into consideration the family responsibilities of those concerned.”
