At the beginning of this week New Zealand was selling down to 116 s per cwt (Is OJd) per lb), but now selling at about 126 s per cwt (Is IJd per lb). Government Stocks. —Position somewhat improved and fair sale has been made. Price at the beginning of this week about 112 s per cwt > (Is per lb), later increased to 114 s per cwt (Is Ofd per lb). Cheese. —Market quiet. Official quotations are: —English, finest farmers 130 s to 140 b per cwt (Is 2d to Is 3d per lb). Canadian 94s to 100 s (lOd to lOJd). New Zealand.—Demand somewhat improved, 82s to 86s (BJd to 9(d. Australian 80s te 82s (BAd to BJd). Hemp. —Manila market quiet and steady. Value “J” grade October to March shipments £3B 10s per ton. New Zealand market continues dull. Consumers show no interest and it is possible to buy highpoints, FebruaryApril shipment, at £37; fair £35 per ton. Eggs.—Market is easier owing to increased supplies and only moderate demand. Wool. —Bradford market maintains good tone. Fine crossbreds and merino tops firm, and little more activity in medium. Present quotations are: — 64’s (merino) 4s 4d, 56’a (super halfbred) 2s 4Jd, 4O’s prepared (coarse crossbred) Is 0(d. Outlook for sale opening next week encouraging. B.A.W.R.A. offerings will consist of 91,000 bales, of which- 56,000 Australian, 25.000 New Zealand, and 10,000 bales Cape Colony. In addition 99,000 bales of privately owned will be offered for sale, including 50,000 Australian, 31,000 New Zealand, 15,000 Cape Colony, 16,500 bales South American. Fruit.—Market slack after the holidays, but tone firmer for imported apples at about quotations already given owing to lighter arrivals. The following is a copy of a cable received by Dalgety and Co., Timaru, from their London office, dated Janu ary 9, 1922. Wool. —Wool sales are opening on March 7. The list closed on December 31. Approximate quantity 69,000 bales Australian, 36,000 Neiw Zealand, 5700 Cape, 9000 South American, probably 100,000 B.A.W.R.A.
