USEFUL INFORMATION.

BATES OF POSTAGE. Letters and Letter Cards. Inland. —2d for the first 2oz or fraction thereof, and Id for each additional 2oz or fraction thereof. (Note —“Inland” includes the islands in the Pacific annexed to New Zealand and Western Samoa (Savaii Islands and Upolu Islands)). The United Kingdom and certain countries named in list on pages 10 to 45 of Postal Guide —2d for each oz or fraction thereof. All other places—2Jd for first oz or fraction thereof, and IJd for each succeeding oz or fraction there of (Postal Union rates). Post Cards. Inland —Single, IJd; reply, 3d. All other places—Single, Id; reply, 2d. Reply Coupons. For prepayment of reply to letter addressed to place abroad, 3d. Inland Packets. (Comprising Commercial Papers for both town and inland delivery, Books and Printed Papers, Pattern and Sample Packets and Unregistered Magazines). For each 4oz or fraction thereof up to lib, IJd; for each additional lb up to 51b, 2d; packets over 51b in weight must be forwarded by parcel post. Inland Parcels. 6d for the first lb, 2d for each additional lb or fraction thereof up to 61b; Id for each additional lb or fraction thereof between 61b and 28 lbs. On payment of an additional fee of 6d the sender of an inland parcel (except parcels containing fishing rods, golf sticks, etc., exceeding 3ft 6in. in length) may have it marked “Fragile” and forwarded to destination in a hamper. Inland parcels on which this special fee of 6d is not paid will be forwarded to destination in bags.

Insurance of parcels (inland), 3d up to £2.

The limits of weight and size for each package shall be as follows:— For places served by rail or steamer: Weight, 281 b; length 3ft 6in; and length and girth combined 7ft. For places served only by wheeled conveyance: Weight 111 b girth combined 6ft. Newspapers. In the Dominion, Id for each newspaper. For places not served by rail, wheeled conveyance, or steamer: height 51b; length 2ft; and breadth or depth Ift.

TELEGRAPH RATES.

Ordinary Telegrams. From any station to any station: For the first twelve words or less, including address and signature, 1/-. For every additional word, Id. Urgent Telegrams. For the first twelve words or less, including address and signature, 2/-’ For every additional word, 2d. Sunday Rates. Ordinary: For the first twelve words or less 2s; for every additional word 2d. Urgent: For the first twelve words or less 4s; for every additional word 4d. Night Letter Telegram Service. Under this q/dNin provision is made for the transmission of such telegrams between any two telegraph offices in the Dominion subject to the following conditions: The rate is to be 1/6 for first 36 words or fraction thereof, and Id for each word in excess of that number. Night letter telegrams will be accepted for thansmission throughout the day up to one hour of the time of closing of either the office of origin or destination, whichever is the earlier. Thus ,a message either to or from an office closing at 5 p.m. must not be accepted later than 4 j.m. Such telegrams are to be tranAnitted to the office of destination throughout the day as opportunity offers. Upon arrival at the office of destination, they are to be held until the hour of closing, and then treated as letters to be delivered by the first postman’s delivery next morning. Those addressed to private boxes to be placed in a letter box on the day of lodgment. Messages must be written in plain English language. No code or cipher is permitted. Neither may code addresses nor code signatures be used. Trade terms, however, such as f.0.b., e.i.f., may be al-

lowed. Figures permitted only in the address and signature. Numbers written in words to be counted in the same way as an ordinary telegram. No provision is made for “Urgent,” “Collect,” or “Multiple’’ telegrams, or any special services, such as “Reply paid,” “Repetition paid,” etc., nor may night 1 etter telegrams be telephoned to the office of origin.
