PERSONAL.
Mr Leonard Shepherd, Waimate, has been appointed a Justice of the Peace.
Miss Busby ,who has been a member of the Methodift Chureh Choir, and a Sunday School teacher for some time, was presented with a fountain pen at a farewell social in the School Hall. The presentation was made by J. I. Hayman, the Rev. W. Beckett also speaking in appreciation of Miss Busby’s work. During the evening, solos were contributed by Messrs Hayman and Brown. The late Mi - E. A. Hurst, who died at Wellington on Tuesday, after a short illness, was well-known in Waimate. . Mr Hurst came to the district as a child with his. father and mother, the late Mr C. J. Hurst and Mrs M. E. Hurst, now of Timaru. Messrs R. B. Hurst (Waimate) and J. C. Hurst (Waihaorunga) are brothers of the deceased, who leaves a widow and two young children.
