In the course of a letter forwarded to Mr Bishop, acting secretary of the Coalmine Owners’ Association, to Mr .Arbuckle, secretary of the Miners’ Federation, ho repeats the request for a conference between representatives of the owners and the Federation for tlie. purpose of making a new National agreement. Hi'o letter says that the miners are averse, to entering into local agrecrigreements, as suggested by the owners. The application of the coal-owners for a local agreement relating to the mines of Westland district is set down or hearing by the Council of Conciliation at Reefton on August 16.
