NOTES AND COMMENTS

[To the Advertiser-By arrangement] The Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting was continued at Addington to-day. The weather was fine and the attendance good, but the track is still showing signs of the recent wet weather. It is considered probable that when the new trotting ground is'laid out at Riccarton a grass track will be installed. After the third race, several motor cars were run round the track to try to squeeze the water out, and by the time the fifth race was run the going was fairly good.

Half a dozen horses were well backed in the Improvers Handicap. Kola Bell, Kola Boy and Bellena being the prime fancies. Meritorious did not go off, and Bellena broke when leading at the end of half a

mile. This left Mangoutu in front, with Kola Bell in second berth. With five furlongs t ogo the leaders were Mangoutu, Randolph and Kola Boy. Kola Boy went to the front at the back, and led into the straight well clear of Mangoutu, Randolph being compounded at the tar turn. In the straight Mangoutu threw out a fresh challenge and Kola Boy broke under pressure, leaving Mangoutu to win by a couple of lengths. Marvin Junior, who made two mistakes early in the race, was a fair third, with Ballin at the head of the others. Mangoutu, who was well handled, by Butterfield, returned a thumping dividend. Embracer and Silver Shoe were the popular selections of the 25 smart milers in the Dash Handicap. Lady Pointer and Nell Pointer were quickest into their hopples, Embracer losing some ground. At the, half mile post Embreabr and Wonderland moved up to the leaders, who were in charge at the last bend. Embracer faltered turning into the straight, and Wonderland came on to win by three lengths from Captain Stanley, who got an opening half way down the running. GJen Mavis, who was always well placed, followed by Gold Queen and Bell Fashion.

Wonderland’s stable mate Oruarangi and the trotter Whispering Willie ear ried most of the money in the big race, the King George Handicap. Oruarangi moved off slowly and Author Dillon also lost a little at the start. Passing the stand the first time the order was Oruarangi, Agathos, and Asturio, and they occupied the same positions at the end of another curcuit, Vice Admiral being at the head ofthe others. Agathos dropped out at the tanks, and though Asturio and Vice Admiral closed in on them at the bend, the Aucklander slipped away again at the home turn and jogged in an easy winner by eight or ten lengths. ViceAdmiral defeated Willie Lincoln for second money by a coupl of lengths and Whispering Willie secured the 75 sovs. attached to second place. Author Dillon travelled well in the middle mile, but General Link paced very badly. Oruarangi was unlucky in striking heavy going, as on a firm track he would easily have qualified for the Trotting Cup by cutting lOsec. or more off his tune. Strong suport was forthcoming for

Thixendale, the Bryce bracket (Oratono and Coldwater) eand the Gladi-ola-Oaknut combination in the Bel-

gium Handicap. Medallids and Bon Patch declined to leave the mark, and Gladeye shot to the front; followed by Thea, Oaknut and Albert Wallace. Thixendale fell in the straight the second time but Jarden escaped unhurt. Entering the final round Oratorio and Lewis McKinney took charge with Thea next. Albert Wallace -put in a run at. the last bend and looked to have the race in hand, when Dillon Direct came from the clouds and caught the leader 20 yards from the post, winning by about a length. Lewis Mc- ; Kinney' was a couple of lengths further back, just in front of Oaknut and Imperial Junior. Doraldina was interfered with when Thixendale fell but did not .look dangerous at the time*.- ,

Money rolled in for Rumania the Lincoln Handicap, and Cam and Lackiewond were also hear backed. Brownwood, Laekiew, and Billy Dillon were first to st out, and made the running for furion. Going out ‘of . straight the las: , ir. Raekieri and Cairo.air had ■ n charge, , Brownwood, Billy Dillon and I(, aroa next.
