NORTH AUCKLAND DEFEATED. The New .South Wales representatives in the initial match of their New 1 Zealand tour decisively beat the North Auckland reps, at Whangarei to-day by 17 points to 8, showing superiority in all departments of the game, except in the forward ruck, iwhere the North Aucklanders held their own. The visiting backs were excellent in combination and perfected in attack. At half, Walker, captain, was responsible for the majority of the passing rushes. All through the visitors shone conspicuously in the finer points of the game. Nothling, at full back, is a particular star, turning defence into offence on numerous occasions. The outstanding forward player in the game was C. Fletcher, of the locals. At half time New South Wales was ahead by 6 to 3; Wallace having scored an unconverted try and Lowden kicked a penalty goal, Fletcher landing a penalty for the northerners. In the second half, for the Cornstalks Lowden placed a penalty goal, Stanleyobtained a try (which he converted), and Carr secured a try which was not augmented. The final stage sajw Weston, for the northerners, cross the line, score cleverly, and add the major points,, bringing the Northern total to 8. The visitors were accorded an enthusiastic reception everywhere, and general applause for their fine exposition of the game. .
