BATH SALTS.

HOW TO MAKE THEM. A delicious addition to the bath is a handful of scented bath salts, but if bought ready prepared the cost to most girjs is prohibitive. Bath salts, however, are easily made at home, their foundation being nothing more or less than ordinary washing soda. Th? should be crushed fairly small, and the dust sifted through a sieve. The crystals should then be placed in a bowl and coloured with any packet dye or with a few drops of cochineal, and, lastly, oil of verbena, of lavender or sandalwood is added and the soda well stirred. The salts need to be kept corked to prevent the scent from evaporating. Bottles, such as those in which fruits are bought, make suitable holders, and a dainty yet inexpensive present consists of a bottle of coloured scented salts tied with coloured ribbon, th? cork covered with sealing wax to match. For ordinary use the colouring might be omitted. A quarter-ounce bottle of oil of verbena, which costs about sixpence, is sufficient to scent some three pounds of soda. Oil of lavender is not so strong, and is considerably dearer.
